On day 1 of the tournament, our school (BISBr) played 2 very tough matches against International College Spain Madrid and also The British International School of Budapest (BISBu). The girls used some strong defending tactics, including a 2:1:2 zone and full court press in both matches. They had some excellent counter attack, involving some superb dribbling up court finished by lay ups from Maria, Aylin, Barbora and Emma. The final scores were 19:32 ICSM:BISBr and 32:26 BISBu:BISBr.
During the final day of competition, the girls knew they would face Prague British International School twice – once in the tournament and also for 3rd or 4th position in the playoffs. They settled well during the first match, establishing responsibilities of certain players when in possession. Sarah was very driven when on court, and Ellen was a very effective point guard throughout the matches. Within the tournament the team beat PBIS 29:25 and were confident going into the playoffs.
Due to real passion and composure during the playoff against Prague, the girls achieved a well-deserved third position in the ENASA Girls Basketball Tournament. Hana showed some tactical positioning for many baskets scored and also Rebecca L. motivated all team mates with her effort on court. Elvira also defended very well and gained many interceptions for the team, allowing them to launch counter attacks.
I, personally, was proud to coach the girls as a team. They played with maturity and real enthusiasm on both days. I really look forward to seeing them achieve future successes in upcoming basketball events in 2019!
