At BISB we believe that all children deserve the necessary support to enable them to reach their full potential. We provide additional tailored support for students who, due to a learning difficulty or as a result of neurodiversity, find learning more challenging than their peers.
We endeavor to support all students with learning difficulties to find strategies which will enable them to overcome barriers to learning, boost their confidence, teach self-resilience, and support the student to be an active learner. All teachers at BISB are committed to this goal and provide personalized and differentiated learning in the classroom.
The Learning Support Department works directly with students who have been identified as needing additional support – either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups. Support is provided on a highly individualised basis according to the needs of each student. We also provide specialist support, training and advice to teachers and parents.
In the Learning Support department, we use attainment and achievement assessments to ascertain the areas of difficulty for the learner and to help to inform the best ways to support their needs. We always consult with parents and students fully before undertaking any testing.
Effective learning support uses a collaborative approach and by supporting students, teachers and parents and we endeavour to develop an environment that results in optimum learning for all. We believe that, by making provision for all students, especially those who require additional educational support, the standards of achievement will be raised for all students.
Sometimes a learner might be experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties that impact on academic achievement and when this is the case the Learning Support department works closely with the school counsellor to find the best solution to the difficulties being experienced.
