Applying to Netherlands

  • neth

The Netherlands is an increasingly popular choice for higher education. Fees are comparatively very low and many of the universities offer bachelors degree programmes in English.

They present an interesting option for our students: they are relatively close to home, cheaper than the UK and often have an international student body.

Applications are via and students apply directly rather than through the school. They are likely to ask for grade transcripts as well as a letter of motivation. Occasionally they will ask for a reference which we can provide for you.

It is worth trying to attend open days at these universities to see if their style of learning works for you. These universities are all academic, research-led institutions.

Maastricht University

the most international university at the moment. They offer a number of merit based scholarships as well as scholarships. They have a problem based learning approach which will suit some people more than others.

Erasmus University Rotterdam

Groningen University

TU Delft (a Technology University) offers an English course in Aerospace Engineering

TU Eindhoven offers courses in English in Industrial Design and Computer Science and Engineering

There are also a number of University Colleges in the Netherlands. These offer an American style liberal arts or sciences degree. This kind of course might suit you if you are not yet sure what to study. You have to live on campus in these universities and you are expected to contribute to campus life. You are expected to show how you plan to get involved in your letter of motivation. You may also be interviewed.

Because of its location there is a strong focus on international peace and justice. They are very keen to recruit international and bilingual students.
