In 2002, I completed my PGCE at the University of Plymouth and enjoyed teaching in Devon for the following four years. I have always been a keen traveller and a life abroad soon beckoned: I began teaching at Modern English School Cairo, and I remained there for eight happy years. Now I am delighted to be here at BISB and part of a hardworking team that has the interests of the children at heart.
During my time teaching in England and Egypt, I have taught children from Years 1 to 7 and been subject leader for maths, humanities, science and music. At the Modern English School Cairo, I led a year group team of six classes and then went on to become Assistant Headteacher for four years. This was a very exciting time in my career since, amongst many other things, it involved a great deal of team teaching throughout both key stages and working closely with fellow teachers as we refined our creative curriculum.
I am a lover of cheese and chocolate and therefore, by necessity, I am a keen walker. I have also participated in half marathons in Finland and Norway and been part of a relay team which completed the 100km Pharaonic Race from Fayoum Oasis to Sakkara in Egypt.
Since travelling independently around India for 6 months at the age of 19, I have always been fascinated in experiencing different cultures and discovering new things; this has prompted many journeys throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Central America. A definite highlight has been journeying solo overland from Cairo to Devon via Syria and Albania.
