Dear Parents and Students,
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our students and families who are returning to BISB for the new academic year 2019-20. A very special welcome to all staff, students and families who are joining us for the first time, and we hope that your relocation has not been a stressful one.
The start of a new year is always exciting for staff who are preparing to meet their students, for students who are eager to renew past friendships and make new ones and for our families many of whom will be sending their children to school for the very first time ......It is a fun time for all.
Thank you to all the students who have taken part in the summer postcard competition. I have a whole box full of cards from places as far away as California, South Africa and Japan.
The coming year promises to be a fortuitous one. The planned investments in our learning environments have become a reality. Students and staff will have the opportunity to work and learn in outstanding spaces which support and complement the teaching and curriculum. These outstanding learning spaces, coupled with outstanding teaching and learning will enable our students not only to fulfil their potential but to exceed it and go onto achieve their dreams.
We have had an excellent set of academic results over the summer, with a 33 point average at IB (almost 4 points above the world average) and some amazing university placements, plus a 44% A*-A pass rate at IGCSE. More news on this can be found on our Facebook page.
We will also be introducing The Juilliard Drama programme from Year 3 upwards, which follows the successful introduction of our Music and Dance programmes in the last two years.
With the changes at our school, we have decided, as of the new school year, to name our campuses after trees. Please remember to refer to:
Update on our summer work
Additional car parking space - across from our main gates, we now have an additional 20 spaces. This should be ready for use, during school hours by the end of September;
New playground surfaces on our Primary playgrounds - both Primary playgrounds have now been resurfaced and remarked;
New outdoor table-tennis tables and chess set - these will give both our Primary and Secondary students additional activities at break and lunchtime;
New classroom furniture in Years 2, 3 and 4 have benefitted from being opened up, becoming bright, airy learning spaces with modern, flexible furniture to encourage collaboration for students. This a rolling programme by which we intend to replace all our classroom furniture;
iPads for Secondary Years 7, 8 and 9 -these will be issued at the start of the new term. Parental agreements will be coming home for signature before these are issued. Weare currently working on the continued roll out of the whole school’s ICT strategy, building upon the developments in our Primary school into the Secondary school. All these developments will be carefully planned and implemented;
Improved Wi-Fi, broadband width and access points.
As you know during Term 3, we have selected a new partner to cook for us from September 2019 - Little Chef. One of the main conditions of the tender was to create and maintain a modern international cuisine with an emphasis on the quality and attractiveness of meals. We have selected a good partner who has experience of cooking for international schools as well as experience with catering for different dietary needs and being able to prepare food in bigger volumes but still with an appealing look and taste.
I hope you can all get a better sense of why, here at BISB, we are so excited about the coming year 2019-20. As a school we are always seeking to improve, never satisfied with where we are but always striving to be better to ensure our students and staff can be the best they can be.
Our students' families are an important part of our school and I hope that as many of you as possible will take the opportunity to become involved in school life.
We look forward to seeing you next week. Yours sincerely,
