Martin Rawstron

British International School Bratislava_Martin Rawston

Year 4A Teacher

Originally from the North-East of England near the city of Newcastle upon Tyne,  I am married to Nicola and have two daughters, Grace and Amelia.  I qualified as a teacher in 2003 having obtained a PGCE in Primary Education at Northumbria University in Newcastle. I have been very fortunate to have taught in a number of schools which have been so varied, fun and interesting.

The first school I taught at, which was in the English countryside, had a total of 70 students! More recently, I have spent 7 fantastic and memorable years at The British International School Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. A slightly larger school nearing 1800 students from more than 84 different countries!  During this time, I taught in Years  5 and 6 and had the additional role of Head of Year. My teaching ethos is 'work hard play hard' and I always try to ensure my students receive a fun and enriching learning experience within a vibrant learning environment.

We are an active family who love to travel. Having lived in the Middle East this has enabled us to have some wonderful adventures which have included trips to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Europe and more recently a 5 week road trip (with a few flights) around the USA. In my spare time I really enjoy sports and have always tried to keep myself ticking over. My main passion was rugby however, a serious injury put an end to this a few years back. As well as this, I enjoy football and support Newcastle United. Their goalkeeper is the Slovakian national keeper, Martin Dubravka! Nowadays, I train regulalry at the gym and enjoy the occasional game of golf!

What my students would say about me:

"Mr Rawstron is fun and makes learning so much more enjoyable."

"Mr Rawstron calls us Year 6 legends when we work hard however, I think he is the real legend!"
