Visual Art Teacher

I'm originally from Perthshire, Scotland. I return home most summer holidays to spend quality time with friends and family. I am a passionate Artist and Teacher, currently in my 12th year of teaching. I am as excited about teaching today as I was when I started, I am lucky to love my job and get to share my favourite thing with my students everyday.

I began in the United Kingdom, teaching in an excellent school, this is where I learned my craft working with a fantastic, nurturing department, I spent 4 year there. I always wanted to run away and have adventures, so I chose China for my first International school experience. I adore the culture and spent my free time exploring as much of the incredible country as I could. Travel inspires me as an Artist. I taught in China and Taiwan for 6 years, the most rewarding factor by far, is the privilege of teaching international students, I have found them to be open minded and driven. The pupils I teach have a real thirst for knowledge and a genuine curiosity which I try to encourage every day.  I returned to Europe, to be closer to family, I have spent one year (maternity cover) in Germany and am now excited to start my next challenge at Nord Anglia, Bratislava.

Art is present in all aspects of human activity and culture. Through the Arts, we can learn to make sense of the world around us, and express our emotions and struggles. I am currently working towards my MA - Artist Teacher. I am constantly exploring new ways to make Art Education relevant and exciting to our students.

The film classic 'The wizard of Oz' is a wonderful allegory for what I want my students to learn. An effective teacher is like the wizard who must help the individual appreciate the potential within us all; the potential to make the best use of our minds, our hearts, and those behaviours that can make the world a better place.
