Chinese New Year is the biggest annual celebration in China. It is festive, colourful, creative and lots of fun, shared with family and friends, with gifts and cards being exchanged. It provided a fantastic opportunity for our Léman students to celebrate their creativity and artistic skills in designing a unique card for this event. Being an international school of many different cultures, it was going to be interesting to see the different perspectives of the Chinese New Year.
Having recently reinvigorated the House System at Léman it made sense to run this activity as a House event where participants would gain points for their House – Black Tortoise, Red Phoenix, White Tiger or Blue Dragon.
Students were encouraged to be creative using a range of mediums such as drawing and painting, collage and relief print. They were informed that the winner from each age category would have their card printed. The cards will be available at school for purchasing to then share with family and friends and it will act as a charity fundraiser for Hopeful Hearts. Léman has built up a supportive working relationship with Hopeful Hearts and we decided to deepen this through the Card project. If there are any unsold cards when school closes, then they will be given to Hopeful Hearts for them to wish people a Happy New Year with.
There were many individual, creative and humorous cards to feast ones’ eyes on, some created by hand and some digitally, making it a hard decision at times. The 5 winning cards provide a wonderful collection of students’ artistic ability and are not to be missed as they are collectables.
