Grade 5 Halloween Entry Point:

Myths and Legends

g5 1

On October 31, the grade 5 students dressed as mythical characters.  The day started with a “guess who” cocktail party.  They students enjoyed hot chocolate, juice, and some tasty pastries while they mingled and talked with one another trying to figure out who was who.  After the Halloween parade, the students had to draw their interpretation of some of the gods and goddesses from various mythologies.  The day concluded with the students trying their hands at a few labors of Hercules.  The students tried to recover the golden apples of Hesperides in the form of bobbing for apples.  They tried to slay the Stymphalian birds then ending it all by testing their strength in a game of tug of war.  It was a memorable entry point to our new IPC unit and one the kids thoroughly enjoyed.
