Friday March 8th was an exciting day for our pupils in upper elementary as the 14 finalists from Grades 3-5 got the chance to perform in front of their peers for the title of Leman Elementary Poetry Slam Champions.
The children were excellently prepared by their parents and teachers, and it was clear a lot of effort had gone into their preparation. Our judges for the event; Ms Brady, Ms Bromby and Ms Chen had a tough task to pick the winners. They judged the performers on body language, voice quality, pacing, memorization, theme, poetic features and use of imagery. The scoring was very tight but, in the end, the top three from Grade 3 were; Leo Gam, Julie Hong and Emily Skoumalova. The stakes were even higher for the Grade 4 and 5 students as the winner would get to go forward to represent Leman at the CISA Poetry Slam. Eventually, after close adjucation, the winners were; Tiffany Vo, Shana Ye and Evelyn Chung.
Our Head of Marketing and Admissions, Ms Tina Chen, presented writing sets to our six winners and certificates to all class representatives. Well done to all poets, teachers and parents for the great poetry and performances. On Friday March 29th we will have pupils representing Léman in CISA Poetry Slam from middle school and high school ,as well as Tiffany, in CDIS Campus at 6pm. We wish them every success.
