Unsung Hero – Mr Ulugbek Rakhmatullayev Mr Ulugbek, our new Maintenance Manager has been with the British School of Tashkent even before it was built! Indeed, Mr Ulugbek oversaw the construction of the building 11 years ago as the Resources Manager and has been with us ever since.

Mr Ulugbek, our new Maintenance Manager has been with the British School of Tashkent even before it was built! Indeed, Mr Ulugbek oversaw the construction of the building 11 years ago as the Resources Manager and has been with us ever since.

Mr Ulugbek’s first job as a 16 year old was as a car mechanic and he enjoyed working with engines and parts to understand how things fit together. His first car was a Zaparosh but he most enjoyed riding his Minsk 1240 motorcycle.

Mr Ulugbek then trained as a Butcher and spent many years in the food sector running his own business and eventually buying and renting out shops and restaurants. Sadly, at the age of 24 tragedy struck and Mr Ulugbek lost his mother and his business due to the misdealing’s of a friend that resulted in his imported goods being confiscated by the tax office.

Having just recently got married, Mr Ulugbek decided to spend some time in contemplation and left with his new bride for a year in a mountain camp. Upon the birth of his son, he returned to Tashkent and started a Plov and Shashlik restaurant and managed to pay off all his debts and start his life afresh.

Today, Mr Ulugbek and his wife both work in managerial positions and as entrepreneurs also own several businesses in the food sector. Their aspirations for their son and daughter are for them to follow their passions as when you do what you love you will inevitably be successful.

At the same time, life can sometimes throw the unexpected at you so Mr Ulugbek has brough up both his children to have high academic aspirations but also practical skills as a backup. Therefore, his son is pursuing a career in IT at university but is also a qualified Hairdresser and although his daughter aspires to be a Doctor, she is also pursuing her interests in Cosmetology.

Mr Ulugbek’s motto in life is that no job is too small as
long as you do it with love and pride. He also believes that as long as you are reliable and trustworthy, the doors to success will always open for you even in tough times.
