This week saw an amazing 2 days of creativity and problem solving for all our Year 5 and 6 students. As part of our collaboration with MIT, we are excited to introduce students to creative projects incorporating STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). The first task presented to our young learners was to research special ‘powers’ found in nature and exhibited by animals and plants. Following their research, the teams had to design a wearable piece of clothing which gives similar special powers to humans, through the aid of technology.
Group work can be both frustrating and exhilarating with a sense of elation when a task is complete. Teams challenged themselves and were certainly ambitious in the product making exercise as they tried out different theories, materials and mechanisms. The final stage involved presenting the design and product to an audience through the use of a model, short video and explanation. I’m sure we have some emerging designers of the future here at BIS. Well done to our young STEAM entrepreneurs!
