Making a difference to others!

Dear Parents,

Our community partnerships are very important to our school; this week was particularly rewarding as our BIS community was offered a glimpse of how we can impact the lives of others. Mid-week, Year 6 students went to Hy Vong, a school for disabled, to meet the children we have formed relationships with over the past three years.

Over the year money has been raised to help Hy Vong to update their facilities by adding a stage and performance area so they too can showcase song and dance. I would like to thank the group of Korean Secondary parents who donated VND23 million to this fund.

Our partnership with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation was also strengthened further this week as our Global Studies Group has worked hard to provide much-needed bicycles adapted for disabled children. Further details can be found in Mr Halpin’s article here.

If you visit our school and pass through the foyer, you cannot fail to notice our key messages about taking care of the environment. A new display is being added to almost daily and shows some fantastic ideas for the upcycling of our old school uniforms. Children and parents alike are being creative and I have been amazed by the variety of ideas submitted so far: from cuddly hens to luggage labels, soft pillows and cushions to water bottle covers, hair bands to pencil cases! I would like to thank our Friends of BIS parents for this initiative and look forward to the project being embedded in our community so we no longer throw old uniforms away.

This week also saw Phase 2 children very busy as they plunged themselves into STEAM activities. Our creative, imaginative young inventors spent time researching special powers in nature before planning their own wearable products. The activity was also useful for learning about how to work in groups and listen carefully to others. Well done, Year 2, 3 and 4!

I would like to wish our swim squad all the best for their Swim Meet this weekend. The teachers are also competing in an annual charity football tournament organised by BBGV (The British Business Groups in Vietnam). I look forward to hearing more about the events soon.
