And so we have reached the final day of term at the British Vietnamese International School.  And what a term it has been.  I have had the pleasure of being involved in the two section Celebration Assemblies, and we can clearly see the enormous growth in the children, in their confidence, ability and passion for learning and participating in all that this wonderful school has to offer.  They are making great strides forward, and this is due to the care and attention that each child receives.

Just a few of the recent highlights in the final week….The Year 6 Exit Point, based around the British TV show ‘Dragons’ Den’, allowed the children a platform for showing their inventions.  So creative, so adept in marketing and promotion, so clear in presentations.  It was a joy and a privilege to be one of the judges, and talking to the students afterwards about their inventions, the process and their thinking behind their product showed a tremendous maturity and potential.  The Early Years play ‘I Spy Christmas’ was a delight too.  These young ones are our future, your future, and whilst they are so little, it is clear that they are growing up fast and learning some amazing things.  The Secondary Sports’ Day was also tremendous, displaying such a competitive but collegiate feel, supporting each other in victory and defeat, striving for their house.  A really good occasion to bring the whole Secondary section together.  The Primary corridors too are now filled with Art work of such a high quality.  In all these areas mentioned, the children should be proud of what they have learnt from each and every situation, both inside and outside the classroom.

It is these sorts of events that provide the overall context of our school.  It is what was noticed in the Accreditation visit, and this report should be out well before the new term so that we can share with you about this.

It remains for me to say that this point how proud I am of the students and staff.  I mentioned in the Celebration Assembly how well the new staff have done, coming into the school after a busy year from their previous employment, having just a few weeks to adjust to a new country, a new city, and new school and then working for the full term with students’ outcomes firmly in their minds.  I and the CIS/WASC team picked up on this immediately.  It is testament to their professionalism, passion and perseverance to get to this point in the year so well – tired but genuinely proud of a job well done.  I thank all the staff for their care, attention to detail and delivery of high quality lessons.  Please do not be surprised if your children complain during this holiday – they are just missing school!

I also pay tribute to the school leadership team to Linh Pham (Business Director), Nick Lee and Nick West (Heads of Secondary and Primary respectively) for their wisdom, time and companionship in this most noble of tasks – in bringing up your children to greater heights whilst they enjoy being in school.

I wish you all a very happy holiday and I look forward to seeing you and your delightful children again on Monday 8th January 2018.
