Colors of Art - Colors of Experience

"This year, BVIS students have explored a wide range of processes in Art across all year groups", shared Ms. Emma Corkery  (BVIS Head of Art).

BVIS Secondary Art 1

Year 7 have underpinned the basic principles of drawing, painting and printmaking, producing some fantastic outcomes that show great promise for our developing artists. Year 8 have applied sculptural techniques to create wire armatures for stop-motion animation, inspired by Wallace and Gromit, with highly creative and humorous results. Year 9 have experienced first-hand what it is like to work to a live brief and created artwork for an exhibition with BIS that explores the Art History timeline. This was a fantastic opportunity that saw our students rise to the occasion producing innovative artworks and showing a dedicated learner-led approach.

The IGCSE work produced this year has also seen an expansion of diversity with students producing outcomes ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture, photography and digital work. The hard work and commitment of the students was clear to see in the excellent quality of the work on display for the final exhibition before the work was sent to the UK for examination. We wish them all the best for results day!

We were all astounded by the quality of the work produced by AS and A Level Art students this year. We saw a range of installation outcomes as well as 3D models, photography, film, visual communication and illustration work. Such diversity in approaches and the scale of the work produced demonstrates how much the students have pushed themselves out of their comfort zones of traditional ways of working into a mature space where they have explored personal themes and expanded their understanding of what art is. The work was appreciated by all as it took over the corridors and classrooms, igniting interesting conversations and inspiring other students.

This year, our school was well represented by students from years 7, 8 and 9 who worked hard to produce entries for the Nord Anglia Education Global Campus Visual Arts Competition. The winners for this year’s Global Campus Visual Arts Competition were announced in May with Kavisha Naella 7S receiving highly commended for her entry in response to UN Goal 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Congratulations Kavisha!
