Our School Councils are the main forums for our students to make their voices heard. With one representative from each class or tutor group, our three School Councils (Senior, Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 1 & Early Years) meet once a week to discuss issues that are important to them.
Having a voice helps our students to feel valued and increases their sense of self-worth. The process of collective decision-making also helps them to understand the responsibility of being part of a community and how to respect and operate within democratic processes.
The School Councils are supervised by teachers but are chaired and run by students. Recently they have successfully asked the school for more play facilities, resulting in a new climbing frame in the Primary playground. They have also selected which charities the school should support throughout the year, giving our students an extra stake in our fundraising efforts.
