Middle schooler Luis Balbín was among 50 international students who attended the MIT Nord Anglia Collaboration Student Trip in 2024. There, he participated in STEM workshops and collaborated with MIT physics experts, pursuing his passion for yo-yos, design, and understanding how things work.
A Life-Changing Experience
Collaborative events like the MIT Student Trip are excellent for exchanging ideas. Our students are empowered by sharing their own scientific inquiries, and they learn from what other students are discovering with their initiatives. During his trip, Luis worked on his own designs in a yo-yo lab and got to see projects from other international students in diverse subjects like computer science, design, and animal behavior.
Working Together
Because collaboration and global mindedness are a big part of NAE events, our students are encouraged to meet new people, forge friendships, and create together. “It's amazing to travel to another country, to experience new cultures, while being able to feel at home,” Luis said. “It’s almost as if all NAE schools were a single school.”
For Project Day at MIT, Luis teamed up with students from Venezuela and China to design a camera for capturing aurora borealis. Their prototype will soon be taken to Alaska, and we can’t wait to see the footage!
Pursuing Dreams
It is important to give students the chance to explore their interests and pursue their goals, so trips like these are opportunities for students to allow their dreams to lead them to incredible experiences abroad that will change their lives forever.
