The significance of community plays an integral part within the educational ethos of the British International School. BIS Hanoi has invested heavily in developing an education programme which encourages students to be conscious and active members of their community. Our vision statement on the subject states: “The British International School has a core commitment to the all-round (holistic) development of each child. Through a range of planned community service and fund raising activities the school will provide appropriate opportunities for the students to develop a respectful and caring sense of social responsibility towards other people and the environment on both a local and global scale”.
During the current academic year we have been developing new projects for both the Primary and Secondary schools. The expectation is that our students give time, energy and commitment to others and ideally we will help them with proceeds of any fundraising supporting the activities which involve our students. We focus on 3 areas – people, animals and the environment, promoting the characteristics set out in our Aide Memoire – Integrity, Respect, Caring, Enquiry, Reflection and Perseverance.
We have already had some wonderful exchanges and visits with our new community partners and we hope to strengthen our partnership with a number of other organisations in the future.
