NAE STEAM Festival provides Northbridge students with an opportunity to showcase their skills In early November, six Northbridge International School Cambodia students from Grades 5 to 7 travelled to one of our sister Nord Anglia Education schools in Thailand, Regents International School Pattaya, to participate in the annual Nord Anglia STEAM Festival South East Asia & Middle East.

In early November, six Northbridge International School Cambodia students from Grades 5 to 7 travelled to one of our sister Nord Anglia Education schools in Thailand, Regents International School Pattaya, to participate in the annual Nord Anglia STEAM Festival South East Asia & Middle East.

The festival provided students with an opportunity to develop and showcase their skills in the STEAM fields, while meeting students from around the region and making new friendships.

On the first day, students were treated to a keynote presentation from Pritika Maharaj an engineer from Ford Motor Company, who spoke about the design process and challenges involved in her experience designing the Ford Ranger Raptor.

Students then participated in a wide range of specialist STEAM workshops, including robotics, coding, photography, augmented reality and sculpturing. They then formed groups with a mix of students from various schools to get to work on the MIT challenge: 'Extreme Exposure'.

Extreme Exposure, developed with support from MIT professor Allan Adams, challenges Nord Anglia students to develop technologies that allow us to explore environments that humans could otherwise not reach.

Examples of environments that were taken on by students include: Deep Sea Exploration, Black Holes, and Volcanoes. Students had to develop working prototypes of their devices and present them in an expo on the final day.

It was fantastic to see such a wide range of ideas on display, and students worked really hard to apply their knowledge and skills or robotics, coding, engineering and design to create unique, functioning devices.

All of our Northbridge students involved in the trip enjoyed their time and just wish the trip had been longer!
