The 2018/19 academic school year is now underway in Nord Anglia Education (NAE) schools around the world, but there is still plenty of cause to celebrate the incredible academic results achieved in the 2017/18 school year. We are proud of the marked improvement recorded across several of our offered curricula, with some definite standouts. Here are some of the many highlights from the past year’s great academic results.

An astounding 50 per cent of our students attained grades A*, A (or equivalent) in the I/GCSEs, two and half times the 2018 UK average of 20.5 per cent

Incorporating drama, the last part of our performing arts programme is more than just learning how to act. Acknowledging each subject’s qualities while engaging in all three curricula in a holistic way can help students build skills that are transferrable, which means they can be used across their subjects at school and later on in life, says Rachel Whitehunt, Director of Performing Arts at the British International School of Washington.

Each year, Nord Anglia Education conducts a Parent Satisfaction Survey to help us improve our understanding of how we are performing. By benchmarking key areas, our survey tells us what our schools are doing well and where we can improve in the future. This helps Nord Anglia Education schools continue to provide the best possible educational experience for our 50,000 plus students. This year’s survey included responses and comments from almost 14,000 parents in 22 different languages. We are proud of these results, as they represent the collective hard work and dedication of everyone at our schools. To give you a sense of how we’re performing, read on for a few key highlights.

It’s one of the biggest events in NAE’s calendar. STEAM Week @ MIT kicks off this weekend on 29 April and our students are buzzing in anticipation of what’s to come! An interesting fact unknown to many about MIT is its motto, “mind and hand”, or Mens et Manus in Latin. We would like to share a blog post by Mark Orrow-Whiting, Nord Anglia Education’s Director of Curriculum and Student Performance, on why he believes the “mind and hand” philosophy is integral to NAE’s STEAM curriculum, which has been enhanced in a collaboration with the university.

Our students will be flying into Boston from far and wide this coming weekend for STEAM Week @ MIT – a unique, five-day long event packed with STEAM-related challenges, learning and adventure at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Congratulations are in order for the Code Club at the British International School Budapest in Hungary, whose code was run on board the International Space Station on Thursday, 1 February 2018! As part of the club’s weekly meetings, Team BISB spent many of those weeks learning Python code during their lunchbreaks. The school’s Head of Computing Doug Semple tells us how it happened.
