Emma Butterworth

Mrs Butterworth was awarded a PGCE from the University of Brighton, and has taught in the UK, Cambodia and Italy before joining the school in 2017.

My first experience of teaching was in Cambodia, teaching English in an orphanage where many children were blind. This was such a rewarding experience which confirmed that teaching was the profession for me.

I was awarded a PGCE from the University of Brighton and began my teaching career in a school striving for success in West Sussex, UK. The excellent professional development opportunities within the school gave me solid grounding in every aspect of teaching. I taught there for 3 years, two in Year 5 and one in Year 6. I was the P.E. Coordinator and an active member of the Literacy Team, specialising in the teaching of grammar.

In 2014 I decided it was time for a new adventure so I secured a job in an international school in Milan, Italy. I worked in Year 6 for two years and was the Primary Maths Coordinator. While coordinating the teaching and learning of Maths throughout the school, I worked actively with the Head teacher to create and implement new policies for planning, assessment and teaching and learning.

I am so happy to be working in a Nord Anglia school alongside likeminded enthusiastic, dedicated and creative teachers.

When I lived in Brighton I loved being by the sea - swimming, having BBQs on the beach and running or cycling along the seafront. During the two years that I lived in the north of Italy, I fell in love with the lakes and the mountains – skiing, cycling and walking. I looked forward to changing the slopes for sand dunes and the new adventures that this has brought! I always make the most out of my weekends and holidays by exploring new places. When I travel, the thing I enjoy the most is tasting the local food. I enjoy cooking and often have friends round for dinner.
