Alyce Hickman

Year 1 Teacher

Ms Hickman studied at the University of Chichester, with a chosen specialism of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

I studied at the University of Chichester which is situated on the south coast of England. My chosen specialism at University was Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

I have always had a strong passion for providing the best and appropriate education provision for all, including those with additional needs. I have previously spent 5 years working with a charity for disabled children and adults, running play schemes in school holidays as a supervisor to precise respite and care. I enjoyed the responsibility and opportunities this leadership role had and have transferred these skills as a class teacher here at BIS Abu Dhabi.

I have taught in both KS1 and EYFS, developing my passion for the Early Years which I have the pleasure to continue to teach.

I love travelling and wish to do more of this in my life! Last summer I travelled round Asia, exploring the new cultures, experiences and lifestyles. I believe that life should be lived to the full and you should enjoy every moment of it. Spending valuable time with friends and family is very important to me and is something I do whenever I can. I am very lucky and grateful to have a large network of friends and family who support me with whatever choices I make. I would love to develop my knowledge and expertise regarding Special Educational Needs during my career, ensuring all children receive the best education and have the opportunity to succeed.

BIS Abu Dhabi mirrors my personal views that teaching should always be child centred, making the purpose and effect of learning the best it possible can be and tailoring this to the individual child. However, what impressed me most about this school is the fact that it is part of a global campus, lending opportunities and experiences only few schools have to all of their students. Links with prestige institutes such as MIT and Juilliard as well as the trips around the world such as Tanzania, allow learning to be embedded in ways so valuable and memorable that education with be held with the highest respect. I feel a great sense of pride to be a part of such a global and powerful force of education, tailored to meet the needs of the future generations and leaders of the world. All of this combined with a friendly and welcoming environment, I am thrilled to be a member of the team and the BIS Abu Dhabi family.
