Both my husband and I worked in Abu Dhabi some 18 years ago and felt it is was perfect time to return to the UAE. I have worked in a variety of schools, all with ‘outstanding’ reputations.
I was at my last school for 10 years and have worked in KS2 as a Year 5 and Year 6 teacher and more recently in KS1 as a Year 1 teacher and also recently qualified as both a Middle Leader and a Forest School Leader. I therefore lead Forest School sessions throughout the school, offering outdoor learning to all the classes.
I feel I am extremely driven when educating all children in my care and it has always been my aim throughout my teaching career to bring out the best in every child I have taught.
I am a highly motivated person and a great member of any team. I have played hockey and basketball for the past 30 years. I have represented the Midlands hockey team for a number of years. I previously played for Bournville Ladies Hockey Club and have been Club Captain for several years. I have played basketball for my country as a teenager and continued on to represent my county and British Colleges at basketball during my college years.
As well as my sporting background I just about have time to be a mum to three children. Elizabeth is at University and both Aimee and Daniel have commenced their education at BIS Abu Dhabi. We are all extremely happy to be in Abu Dhabi and enjoy embracing all of the adventures it has to offer the Smyllie family.
I chose to join BIS Abu Dhabi as it offers the National Curriculum of England, but allows teachers to develop their pupil’s skills in a more flexible and bespoke way. I'd heard excellent things from people we know in Abu Dhabi and so not only was it somewhere I wanted to teach, but it is a school where my teenage children are excited to learn.
