I graduated in 1995 from the University of Leeds and had a background of working as a commercial analyst in the steel and gas industries before completing a PGCE at the University of Nottingham. I worked in the UK for over ten years and have enjoyed eight years working in the United Arab Emirates, the last four years as head of department.
Teaching mathematics was always something I had thought about and deciding to change career to retrain was a big decision. Twenty years later I am still at my happiest in the classroom and don’t have any regrets about making that choice. Deciding to leave the UK in 2011 to work in the UAE was an equally big decision but my wife and I have loved the whole experience.
Coming from Newcastle Upon Tyne there is no need to mention I follow the ups and downs of my local club. I do have other interests however, two of which are travelling and scuba diving, the latter usually informing my decisions about the former. I also enjoy reading, cooking and camping and have enjoyed taking advantage of living in a part of the world with such fantastic weather and scenery allowing me to do all three at once.
Knowing the country and many of its international schools well, BIS Abu Dhabi stands out for me because of the fantastic sense of community and the excellent academic results achieved.
