Following completion of an Art Foundation year Diploma majoring in Textiles, I went on to explore the scope of Art & Design influences by completing a BA (Hons) degree in Landscape Architecture at Leeds Beckett University. After several years working for Landscape and Graphic Design businesses in the UK, I decided I’d like to inspire young people into the creative industries. I completed a PGCE in secondary education in 2006 and have happily been an Art and Design teacher ever since.
Prior to joining the British International School Abu Dhabi, I worked as Head of Visual Arts in the UK before joining Nord Anglia family of schools in 2012 and becoming Head of Art and Design at British International School Shanghai, Pudong.
Teaching back in the UK has been a welcome opportunity to catch up with family and close friends, but also reflect on the importance of being globally minded in education and the wonderful range of subjects, opportunities and experiences international schools are able to offer their students.
I am a passionate believer in the relevance of an Art & Design education in schools when inspiring young people to be creative problem solvers and equip them with the skills needed to go out and design every aspect of our future lives. My love of travel has also led to visual arts trips to Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona, to further enthuse students with how art and design shapes our world.
Aside from travelling and experiencing new cultures in my free time, I also like to swim, run (slowly), read, cook, go to Arts events, create illustrations from my travels and add to my ever growing stationery collection (I convince myself that this is quite normal, given that they can be justified as the tools of my trade!).
