Sports Report

14 October 2018

Over the past few weeks, the U14 boys Volleyball team have been training hard for their competition that that took place at AKIS on Monday 8 October. The team showed amazing commitment and dedication, opting to train during their break times and in ECA sessions as well as their scheduled PE lessons.  On the day of the competition, the boys were extremely excited and hyped up for their first ever competitive Volleyball competition. Their first game against Doha College was extremely close and they just missed out, losing 11 -15. For their second game, the nerves had faded and they really showed off their skills beating AKIS 11-15. In the final game of the group stages we just needed to win one more match to qualify for the final stages but unfortunately, this was one task too many. After a thrilling and tense game where both teams took the lead at one point, we ended bowing out of the competition with a score of 15 - 10  against Sherborne School.
The team were proud of their achievements and are excited to gain more match experience in the near future. Mr Gavin said "I am very proud of how the team have worked together to improve their skills and would like to thank the volleyball coach from Al Khor Sports Club for coming in and helping to train the team in a number of sessions." He also said "If this team continues to show the dedication they have shown thus far, they will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in future competitions.”
Our U8 and U9 Primary students went to Doha College West Bay to take part in the annual QPPSSA Indoor Athletics competition against other school in the North League last Tuesday. For our Year 3 children, it was the first time many has taken part in a sports competition for the school or any team. Students compete in 10 events gaining points for their team. Students have been practising hard during their PE lessons and during break times. Both teams finished 7th so we still have work to do to improve. There were some fantastic distances thrown in the Javelin by some of our Yr 4 boys. Well done to all who participated.
The U16 girls Volleyball team played a friendly tournament against GEMS American Academy on Wednesday. Following the QUESS tournament, the team have demonstrated a real desire to play more competitive games. They played three sets in total and despite losing all 3 took the first game to a nail biting tie-break situation. Their Netball league starts in November with lots of games at home so parental and sibling support is very welcomed.
