Mr Roo’s Tanzania Diary (Part 1)

Tuesday 27th February

Our 1.00 a.m. flight from Bangkok arrived in Nairobi early on Tuesday morning and we caught another Kenya Airlines flight (but on a much smaller plane) to Kilimanjaro Airport with beautiful views of the edge of the Rift Valley and Mount Kilimanjaro.

We were met at the airport by NAE staff and were driven to Shamba Kipara Camp where we spent the afternoon settling into our home for the next week.

Wednesday 28th February

After breakfast, we said goodbye to Ms Lisa and her Lake Natron group, and then split up from Ms Martine and Mr Will’s group for the day’s activities.

In the morning, we headed to Kitefu village, where previous Nord Anglia projects have helped the village and especially the Primary School. In the afternoon, we began to build goat sheds and install solar lighting in Maji Y Chai. Ms Martine and Mr Will’s group did this on Friday.

Thursday 1st March

We spent the morning finishing our goat sheds and installing a smokeless stove. We were then able to hand over the goat to the family who we had built these for. In the afternoon, we built desks for another local primary school. Ms Martine and Mr Will’s group did this on Friday.

Friday 2nd March

After two great days of service work, we headed on our safari to Tarangire National Park. See next week’s Newsletter for more...

WoW (Week of Work)

Please see Mr Paul’s Head’s Lines section of this Newsletter for details of Year 10’s Week of Work, taking place during Term 3. Please email Mr Bevin (bevin.cl@standrews.ac.th) or Khun Pom in the High School Office (pom.sa@standrews.ac.th) if you would be able to offer a placement for any Year 10 students and also pass on this information to others that you know, who are not part of the St Andrews Community, who could offer valuable experiences to our Year 10 students.

World Maths Day

World Maths Day is the world's largest online maths competition. Participating students are required to complete 20 games on various levels, earning points by answering as many correct questions as possible alongside other competing students of the same age and ability. During the 48-hour competition, a leaderboard known as the 'Hall of Fame', records all scores and displays the top 100 students in each year group.

The official competition will begin at 6.00 p.m. on Tuesday 6 March 2018. Our Key Stage 3 and some of our Year 10 Students will be given the opportunity to compete in this event during their maths lessons on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 March.
