TISAC Drama Competition set to begin

The very first drama/theatre competition in Bangkok is to be held here at STA ... and info on the much anticipated EXPO 18.

TISAC Drama Competition

It is with great excitement that the High School Drama Department are hosting the very first TISAC Drama Competition here at St Andrews International School Bangkok. With the planning all now finalized, the event will take place on Thursday 7 June 2018 between 7.30am and 2.30pm.

The aim of this event is to bring together the TISAC schools and create an experience that will empower our young drama students, encourage creativity and develop a more defined link between the drama and theatre TISAC students.

The schools involved are…

  • St Andrews International School, Bangkok

  • Bromsgrove International School

  • Regents International School, Bangkok

  • Ascot International School

  • Traill International School

  • Charter International School

The schools have been given a stimulus (starting point) prior to the event to which their groups must create an 8 minute polished performance ready for the Thursday 7 June. Each school will rehearse for a short time before working with a group of students from another school to link both pieces together. Each school has been permitted to bring no more than 10 students at KS3 level (Year 7, 8 & 9) and a group of no more than 10 students in Year 10.

By the end of the day each school will have a polished 10-minute performance to perform in the showcase event where the different TISAC schools will be judged by professional actors/directors and awarded for achieving the best in the criteria below.

The criteria for each school’s performance in both categories (KS3 and Y10) will include the following…

  1. A creative edge in the delivery of the piece

  2. An Imaginative response to the stimuli given

  3. The piece should have elements of emotion

  4. The ensemble group should have a connection/ rapport both on stage and off

  5. The piece should be evocative; creating a mood/ atmosphere

  6. The performers should have a rapport with the audience

  7. Overall best performance

  8. Best male performer

  9. Best female performer

EXPO 18 will take place at the High School on Wednesday 20th June. This event is a celebration of student creativity in the Performing and Visual Arts Faculty and Technology Department and includes work from Art, Drama, Music and Technology. From 2.45pm onwards there will be Technology exhibitions in the Atrium and the DT Rooms. Art will be showcased in Blue Building Floor 7. At 3.15 pm Drama performances will take place in the Jo Adamson Theatre, followed by a musical concert starting at around 4:15pm. This will feature the Choir, Jazz Band and Production cast and band as well as other items. The concert should be over at approximately 5pm. Parents are welcome to attend and enjoy the work that our students have produced this year.
