How Nord Anglia’s Global Campus Enriches the St Andrews Curriculum

How Nord Anglia’s Global Campus Enriches the St Andrews Curriculum - Global Campus

At St Andrews, we are passionate about nurturing curious, creative, and compassionate learners who are ready to make a positive impact in the world. A key resource supporting this mission is Nord Anglia Education’s Global Campus, an exclusive online learning platform connecting over 80,000 students across NAE schools worldwide.

Through Global Campus, our students participate in a wide range of inspiring and enriching experiences, from virtual competitions and global tournaments to expert-led talks and collaborative projects. These opportunities encourage students to stretch their thinking, explore their passions, and develop skills that prepare them for the future. Whether they’re designing an invention with MIT, writing a short story judged by a published author, or engaging in service work in Tanzania, Global Campus extends learning far beyond the classroom.

A world of virtual, global learning opportunities

Global Campus complements and enhances our curriculum across a variety of subject areas at St Andrews:

Art, Design & Media

From international photography contests to collaborative art challenges, students express their creativity in diverse ways. This year’s Art Competition, themed ‘Nature’s Wonders’, features tutorial videos from NAE alumna and guest judge Laura Medcalf to help students refine their skills. Students can also use the How-To Studio for step-by-step guides in drawing and design, and contribute to the creation of a collaborative Global Campus Mural. Activities like the Photography Spotlight help Key Stage 3 students prepare for GCSE Photography.

Read, Write, Talk

Supporting our English and Languages curriculum, students take part in activities like the Global Writing Competition, judged by children’s author Sam Sedgman. Using shared themes, students write original stories in English or their First Language, with top entries professionally illustrated and published as e-books. The Global Campus Book Club also enhances reading comprehension and critical thinking. For example, during UN World Space Week, students shared and discussed space-themed book recommendations with peers around the world.

Performing Arts

In partnership with The Juilliard School, students develop their talents and confidence in activities like the Virtual Young Musician of the Year. These experiences enhance creativity while supporting our Performing Arts curriculum.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths)

Partnering with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), students engage in hands-on STEAM challenges that foster innovation and real-world problem-solving. These projects directly link to our interdisciplinary STEAM curriculum, and selected students may even attend global summits hosted at MIT alongside peers from other NAE schools.

Our World

Students explore major global issues such as climate change, sustainability, and international development—key themes that align with our Humanities curriculum. These activities encourage students to think critically about their role in shaping the world.

Life, Wellbeing & Sport

Global Campus also promotes student well-being and healthy lifestyles. Activities such as Life Lab, the Global Sports Challenge, the IBDP Sharing Wall, the Duke of Edinburgh International Award, and global chess tournaments support our PSHE and PE programmes, encouraging students to build resilience, stay active, and practise mindfulness.

Social Impact

One of the most transformative areas of Global Campus is its focus on social impact. Through initiatives like the Tanzania Service Expedition, students engage in meaningful community service. The annual NAE Student Summit in the United States brings together students from 52 schools worldwide to explore leadership, policy, and service related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over seven days, students participate in talks, workshops, and hands-on projects aimed at empowering them to become changemakers in their communities.

Thanks to their active participation in these initiatives, St Andrews was awarded the Bronze Award for NAE Social Impact on Global Campus, a recognition of our commitment to community service and global citizenship. This award marks the first level of achievement in NAE’s social impact programme and reflects our strong culture of service learning, empathy, and leadership.

Designed for safety, built for engagement

Global Campus is a safe, teacher-monitored platform using the latest educational technology to create a secure and collaborative online space. Teachers oversee all interactions to ensure students engage meaningfully and responsibly with peers across the globe.

More than just an add-on

At St Andrews, Global Campus is an integral part of our students' development—not just an enrichment activity, but a core component of our approach to global education. Students also have the chance to take on leadership roles such as Global Campus Student Leads, developing key skills in communication, collaboration, and initiative.

Each subject strand is designed to align with and deepen our academic programmes, helping students to become confident learners and global citizens prepared for the future.
