An update on the recent changes in the High School Canteen, following the student survey and a meeting between the Student Leadership Team and Epicure towards the end of last year.

quality variety

In May last year, we asked the students to complete a survey about the High School Canteen, in preparation for a meeting between the Student Leadership Team and Epicure in June.

Over 500 students responded and, as you can see from the pie charts above, they were overwhelmingly positive about the changes in both the quality and variety of the food in our new food-court style High School Canteen compared to the à la carte model at Sukhumvit 71 in the previous year.

Despite this, we know that the High School Canteen can be even better this year, and the Student Leadership Team shared many ideas for future developments when they met with Epicure. We have already seen some of these happening, with the new vegetarian menus especially popular. Already there are a greater proportion of students eating in the High School Canteen than there were last year. You can see the huge variety of dishes on offer, and all the allergens included in each dish, in each week’s menu on Moodle:

I know from discussions so far this term with Walter Pfluger, Epicure’s Director of International Cuisine, that many more developments are coming soon, and Walter will be meeting with the Student Leadership Team, now rebranded as Student Voice, in a few weeks’ time to discuss the progress so far this term and his plans for the future.

One of the other changes that has taken place already is our new split lunchtime, with Key Stage 3 students (Years 7 to 9) having lunch from 11:30am to 12:30pm and Key Stage 4 students (Years 10 to 13) having lunch from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. This has reduced queues and increased space in the Canteen, as well as making sure that all students have space to socialise once they have finished their lunch.

Another big change is a clarification of the codes and charging system. While there were some issues during these updates, hopefully by now the Spending History on your son/daughter’s Moodle Canteen page is much clearer than it has been before.

Please contact your son/daughter’s Tutor if you have any issues with this and we will investigate. The most common issue so far is students buying lunch for their friend who has either not yet topped up their account or who does not have their Student ID Card with them.

ECA Update

You will all be receiving an email from ecaps@standrews.ac.th with some important, updated, information about our ECA programme. Please look out for this email and make sure you read it carefully as there have been some changes to the start date and schedule of ECAs that you need to be aware of. You can also find out more about these changes by clicking on this link.

Parents’ Information Evenings

It was great to see so many Year 7 parents at Wednesday’s Year 7 Parents’ Information Evening, when we gave both new and returning parents a great deal of information about life in the High School as well as giving parents an opportunity to meet their son/daughter’s Tutor.

These continue this week for parents of students in Years 8 (Tuesday), 9 (Wednesday) and 10 & 11 (Thursday). All parents should have already received an email about these from their son/daughter’s Tutor(s).

These Information Evenings also include some information about using Moodle, but for any new parents, or returning parents who have further questions about the use of Moodle, a video of one of Mr Keith’s (our Director of Learning Technologies) recent drop in Moodle Workshops is available on the school’s Youtube page.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Parents’ Information Evenings this week,

Roo Stenning
Head of High School
