4 golfers from Primary and 8 from High School, impressively represented St Andrews International School Bangkok at the recent 2019 FOBISIA Golf Tournament.

During the week of 11 March St Andrews International School Bangkok competed at the 2019 FOBISIA Golf Tournament in Hua Hin at Black Mountain golf course. This was the first time that we were able to take a full team of 12 golfers, 4 pupils from Primary and 8 from High School. It was a fantastic week where all of the children were outstanding ambassadors for the school; the high school pupils did a great job of looking out for the primary children and we were fortunate enough to have lots of support from our fantastic parents.

Team spirit was clear for all to see, with parents and pupils looking very smart in their STA kit and everyone made a real effort to support each other. We were complimented by a number of coaches, parents and players from other schools on how sportsmanlike and polite our team was as well as how much effort they put into their game.

One of the highlights was to be the first team to win the net (Stableford 395 points) team prize and this was extra special as it was a combination of both boy and girl scores from both campuses that clinched this for us (Pun Pun, Leely, Jida and Boom). It was also really special to see how much resilience the whole team showed. Black Mountain is a very challenging course with strong winds and extremely tough greens - this did not dampen the team’s spirits and many members were straight back out on practice areas to help them to improve for the next day.

The full team was: Bei Bei, Anisa, Martin, Jump, Mond, Ashwin, Boom, Jida, Leely, Fahsai, Pun Pun and JJ.

Primary School

JJ (year 4) showed real courage and determination as one of the youngest players in his flight and was able to show his strength of character to bounce back after particularly difficult holes, especially as this was his first FOBISIA competition. He still has 2 more years to compete in this category. Fahsai (year 5) managed to post some excellent scores and her positive outlook and sense of humour was a joy to be around, for us and the other competitors alike. This was also her first FOBISIA and she will have the opportunity to play in this group again next year. Pun Pun (year 5) came 3rd in his flight, an excellent performance for his first FOBISIA and was one of the contributors to the net team prize. Leely (year 6) played in a very competitive group and improved her score day on day to win her group with a final day score of 4 under par; an amazing achievement! Leely also came top of the net scores for her category as well as 2nd place out of all the girls for gross scores and 2nd out of nearly 128 golfers for net score for the tournament. She also added to this with an impressive win in the longest drive competition on day 2.

High School

In a very tight competition and on one of the finest golf courses in Thailand, all of the team showed great skill and mettle. All players posted very good scores in the gross and net competitions. Jida came 3rd in the Girls C category gross scores and first in her category for the Stableford, she also played through injury on the final day showing great strength of mind. Boom won the overall Stableford male championship as well as closest to the pin in 2 shots on the 9th. Anisa won a closest to the pin competition on hole 3 day 1. All players competed well and should be proud of where they finished in the final standings. The future's looking bright for the STA Flames golf team.

The tournament was hard work for the players and everyone came away with something positive for the future. Mr Andrew and Mr Matt would like to say a huge thank you to the players for being a joy to work with. Finally, we want to thank all of our amazing parents that have supported the players, the school and the coaches. We would never have been able to make it this far without you. It was great that so many of you could come and thank you to all of those that were sending messages and joining in through social media.
