The dedication and care of teachers at St Andrews Bangkok

At St Andrews Bangkok, teaching goes beyond academic excellence. It is about the dedication, care, and compassion teachers bring to every child’s learning journey. Families consistently highlight how educators here go beyond the curriculum, guiding and supporting students in ways that nurture confidence and character. This commitment ensures children feel valued, included, and inspired to thrive.
School teachers who care
Parents often describe St Andrews teachers as warm, approachable, and deeply committed to their students. Their ability to listen with patience, respond with understanding, and offer reassurance builds strong relationships with families. This trust allows children to flourish, knowing they are supported by adults who believe in them. Teachers speak with honesty and compassion, meeting students where they are and helping them grow in independence and resilience.

An example of care in action
One family shared their gratitude for Mr Sam, Primary Teacher in Year 2, whose impact on their child was profound. His positivity and genuine smile made a difference every day. He recognised the child’s strengths, nurtured confidence, and encouraged self‑belief. By challenging the student in the right ways and supporting them through uncertainty, he helped the child discover they were capable of more than they realised.
Mr Sam’s ability to see beyond surface behaviours and connect with the thoughtful, sensitive qualities within his student exemplifies the ethos of St Andrews. For the family, this dedication meant their child felt truly seen and believed in, a gift that will stay with them for years to come.
The family reflected: “We are deeply grateful for the dedication and care shown by teachers at St Andrews. Our child’s teacher not only nurtured his confidence and independence but also helped him believe in himself in ways that will last a lifetime. That kind of commitment is what makes St Andrews such a special place for families; it’s where children feel truly seen, understood, and supported.”
Experienced and passionate teachers in Bangkok
At St Andrews, teachers are chosen not only for their qualifications but also for the passion they bring to education. Mr Sam embodies this philosophy. From a young age, he knew he wanted to teach, leading him to study Primary Education at university in the UK. His training combined teaching and learning theories, educational pedagogies, and subject‑specific methods across primary year groups, alongside extensive placements in schools that gave him valuable practical experience.
With 11 years of teaching across Foundation Stage 3, Year 1, and Year 2, Mr Sam has developed a deep understanding of how children progress through different stages of learning. This breadth of experience allows him to adapt his teaching to meet the needs of each age group while building a strong grasp of the primary curriculum.
What makes his approach distinctive is the passion he brings to celebrating individuality. “It’s important for children to know that we are all different. I often tell my class that we’re not robots and it would be a very boring world if we were all the same. Our uniqueness is something to be valued.” By fostering a classroom where every child feels seen, accepted, and appreciated, he helps students grow in empathy, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Student wellbeing at St Andrews Bangkok
Mr Sam believes wellbeing is the foundation of student success. “It is everything. My fundamental values as a teacher are that every child should feel happy and safe at school. When children feel secure, valued and supported, they are far more likely to thrive both academically and personally. Lessons may start at 8 am, but if children are not ready to learn, our priority is to support them so they can be.”
This perspective reflects the wider ethos at St Andrews, where care and wellbeing are prioritised alongside academic achievement.

Continuing professional development at St Andrews
Since joining St Andrews, Mr Sam has embraced every opportunity to grow both his teaching practice and his leadership skills. He values being part of a school that invests in professional development, recognising that these experiences ultimately enrich the quality of teaching students receive.
He also shares heartfelt guidance for those entering the profession: “Remember, children get one go at school. Give them opportunities, make them laugh, show them how to challenge themselves, let them make mistakes, believe in them and always be kind.”
Much of his recent professional development has focused on reading and phonics. Last year, St Andrews was fortunate to welcome Chris Such, a UK-based primary education consultant, author, and former school leader who specialises in evidence-informed approaches to teaching reading. He is best known for his books The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading and Primary Reading Simplified, which are widely used in teacher training programmes. The school has since begun implementing his approach across the school, strengthening how teachers nurture literacy and ensuring every child benefits from a consistent, research‑led strategy.
Innovative teaching backed by research
This dedication is strengthened by St Andrews’ commitment to innovation and evidence‑based practice. Teachers engage in continuous professional development and contribute to global research initiatives such as the Nord Anglia Metacognition Action Research Project in partnership with Boston College and Harvard’s Project Zero. Studies such as the “See, Think, Me, We” routine in Year 2 have shown that reflective teaching strategies can transform children’s understanding of empathy and kindness. These approaches ensure that care is not only heartfelt but also grounded in best practice, helping children develop compassion, resilience, and confidence.
Year after year, they continue to inspire confidence, nurture growth, and create environments where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Their work shows that education is not only about knowledge but also about relationships, trust, and the belief that every child can succeed.
