Important reminders for next week

Don’t forget, next week we are closed on Monday 20 May for the Visakha Bucha compensation day.

Next Thursday, 23 May, is the second of our catch-up Monday timetable days. This means that the children will need to bring everything they will need for a Monday timetable. ECAs will run on Thursday's schedule as normal.

Sustainability and Recycling Initiatives - Next Steps

As you know, this year, as a school, we have been thinking more about our impact on the environment and have been looking at ways to reduce our waste and ensure that it doesn't all end up in landfills.  We have also been talking to the children about saving energy, and you might have seen these reminders across both Primary and High School as we try to embed this message.

This week will bring a meeting with Ms Helen and the St Andrews Eco-Beasts group with representatives from the Primary Leadership Team and Epicure to look at how we can reduce the use of plastic, and waste in general as we move forward towards a sustainable future.

Already all of the food waste collected by our canteens is sent to a local fish farm and we introduced recycling bins across both campuses and are talking to the children about thinking carefully about their use of resources.

But Here are The Facts…

We generate too much trash

1.2 Kg - Trash generated by Bangkokians every day

22% - Amount of trash Bangkok generates relative to the whole country.

8.1 Millon - Plastic bags Bangkokians use, per day

40% of the trash produced could be recycled

Currently only about 18% of the trash produced does get recycled

How can we help?

A group of parents and students have been at the fore in helping us improve our waste management as a community, but we want to make a bigger impact.

By popular request on Thursday 23 May, we will introduce a monthly paper and cardboard recycling scheme for our community. So, if you have any paper and cardboard please bring it into school and place it in the recycling bins to the rear of the T Block.  You can do this at any point during the school day. If you have large or heavy loads, a trolley will be available at the main school gate.

This will then be sold to a local recycling company and the proceeds go into an Education Fund for the children of our 6-day staff.
