Key Stage 2: Year 6 musicians impress

Year 6 showcase their musical talent in their end of year Music concert. We are launching a new recycling initiative as well as invite you to a workshop on Living a Healthy Lifestyle. We celebrate the achievements of our students outside the classroom and, finally, we have a Monday timetable on Thursday to make up for all the national holidays that have fallen on a Monday this Year.

Monday timetable on Thursday

This Thursday we will be following the Monday timetable. Please make sure the children have any equipment to allow them to access the Monday timetable - swimming kit, PE kit, musical instrument. Thursday ECAs will run as normal.

Year 6 Music Concert

Last Thursday, Year 6 performed in their end of year music concert. This was a showcase of all of the hard work they had put in during their music lessons. The concert, which was a mixture of group and ensemble performances, highlighted the strength of our instrumental music programme. A new element introduced for this concert was a combination between music and dance. The children composed their own short pieces based on one of the Juilliard key works - Excursion by Sean Shepard. Some of the Year 6 girls then choreographed their own dances to go along with each piece. Well done to everyone in Year 6 for a beautiful showcase of their work in music and well done to the music team for their efforts across the year.

Success outside of school for KS2 students

In school, we always try and promote non-academic success in our students alongside their success in the classroom. Many of our students are also involved in a range of activities outside of school in which they are excelling. We would like recognise our student’s hard work outside of school and to celebrate these too. If you have any other achievements that your children have been involved in outside of school that you would like see appear in a future newsletter, please mail them to me, including a photo or two.

Indy

Indy in Y6 recently competed in the Thailand Junior Chess Championship U 12. (Classical games). Indy started the competition in fine form, leading the pack for the first three days of competition. During his 6th, game, after taking a risk in going for the win rather than settling for a draw, Indy lost the lead. However, he can be very proud of his performance and he finished 2nd place overall, which is a fantastic achievement.
