Mathematics is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13. The position of Key Stage 4 Coordinator may be available to a suitably qualified candidate.
All students study Mathematics throughout the High School, with Key Stage 3 schemes of work based on the National Curriculum but adapted to encourage creative approaches to real life applications and taught in mixed-ability groups. At Key Stage 4, Years 10 and 11 students study IGCSE Mathematics, with a group of students each year taking the IGCSE exam at the end of Year 10 and then following a Further Maths course in Year 11. All students then continue to study Mathematics as part of their International Baccalaureate Diploma. Experience of teaching the IB Mathematics courses, and their philosophy, especially at Higher Level, and/or of teaching Further Maths A-Level, would be advantageous.
At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.
All Maths classrooms have data projectors, interactive whiteboards and access to the internet, and there is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate, with laptop carts, iPads and ICT labs bookable when required.
As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.
St Andrews is committed to ensuring the safety of all our students, and expects all staff to share the same commitment (see our Child Protection Code of Conduct). No teacher will be appointed without at least two references, including one from the most recent employer, a ten year criminal record check and relevant regional Prohibition Order/DBS checks.
