High School: International Women’s Day

We celebrated International Women’s Day on Friday, celebrating women in sport.

women in sport

To celebrate International Women’s Day on Sunday, students have been recognising both the successes of, and some of the challenges faced by, women and girls in sport.

A number of students took part in both our girls in sport interviews, which can be seen in the video below, and a Students v. Teachers Volleyball match, which saw the students take victory.

Grade Reports and Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings

As we enter the last four weeks of Term 2, we prepare for Grade Reports and Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings for students in, in date order, Years 9, 7, 8, 10 and 12 - all the dates are included again in the Calendar below. Parents of students in Years 9 and 7 will receive more information from Mr Eoin and Mr Paul respectively very soon, including a number of developments, following some Focus Group discussions with groups of Year 7 parents to reflect, and improve, upon the Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings that took place in Term 1.

Parents of students in Years 8, 10 and 12 will also receive more information from their Heads of Year shortly.

COVID-19 Updates/FAQ

On Friday, we shared our COVID-19 FAQ, which collates all of our COVID-19 communications, as well as links to MOE/OPEC documents and other useful external websites. We have already shared many of these useful external websites in previous e-mails and Newsletters, but one significant addition is a recommendation from Ms Amy, our Head of Counselling Services: How can families find balance in these uncertain times – does this temporary ‘new normal’ provide us with an opportunity to recalibrate?

On Friday afternoon, OPEC (the Office of the Private Education Commission) issued No. Sor Tor 0211.6/ 3691 Additional Preventative measures against the spread of the Coronavirus, which states that schools must postpone both "all activities arranged between schools" and "all activities which involve external parties", meaning that we have had to cancel a number of planned trips and fixtures.

Throughout this term, High School teachers have been discussing our Distance Learning Guidelines

While we very much hope that the precautions we have in place will mean that the school does not have to close at any point due to COVID-19, as this document states, “It is important that, in the event of a school closure for any reason, the students’ education continues to the best of our ability.”

This draft document contains guidelines for teachers in the event of a possible future school closure. We believe that it is important to be proactive and have these conversations now, and to continue to learn from our own, and other schools’, experiences, rather than reacting to unfolding events.

The recent quarantines, of both students and teachers, have allowed us to pilot a number of these technological and pedagogical approaches, and we have also been in discussion with colleagues at Nord Anglia schools in China and Hong Kong, where schools have been closed since the Lunar New Year.

We would welcome feedback from parents on this document, either by e-mail or in a discussion at one of the forthcoming Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings.
