Staff Profiles: Ms Hollie

Hollie

Foundation Stage 3 Teacher

I first starting working with children as a teenager, as my little sister started attending a school for children with communication challenges. I started working closely with a charity that supported children and young adults with speech and communication needs. I would volunteer as a 'big sister' for the playschemes and summer camps they offered to the families they supported. At the time, I didn't realise I wanted to be a teacher, but after leaving school in 2008, I started working as a Teaching Assistant at a local school in my hometown, in Surrey, England.

My mum still works at the school now and has been there for nearly 20 years! At this school, I would often visit Early Years in my free afternoons and enjoyed listening to readers and playing in the roleplay corner with the children. This inspired me to take the plunge into Early Years teaching, and I enrolled for a Primary Early Years Education, BA Hons, at the University of the West of England in Bristol. In 2012, I moved to London to take up my first teaching post in a Primary School in South East London, where I was tasked with leading a Nursery class of over 50 children - some of whom attended in the morning, and some in the afternoons. It is undoubtedly a challenge, as such a young teacher but a truly invaluable experience.

After a while, I decided to move on as I desired to explore International teaching and moved to Prague, Czech Republic, in 2014, where I took on my first FS3 role. In 2016, it was time to travel again, and I found myself in Bangkok, Thailand. I spent five years teaching FS2 and FS3 in a different International school before moving to St Andrews in 2021. I love living in Bangkok, as it is so easy to travel to the beach during the school holidays. I also enjoy visiting my family in the UK when I have the opportunity.

I am a very proud Auntie to my niece Amelia, and I adore spending time with her. I enjoy gardening in my free time, and I have a collection of over 100 plants, so they require lots of attention. I also have four cats, and they also need lots of attention! What makes our school unique is its commitment to the development of everyone - children, teachers, TA's and ground staff alike.
