Staff Profile: Ms Silvia

Silvia Barreto

Biology Teacher

I obtained my BSc in Biology at Universidad de los Andes (2002), a Specialisation in Bilingual Education (2010) and my Masters' Degree for International Educators with the State University of New York (2015). I started teaching in Colombia since 2001 while I was still studying at the university and I fell in love with education. Ever since then, I have been teaching Science and Biology in several schools, most of them IB. This opened my mind and motivated me and my to look for a new teaching experience outside our country.

My first international job was in 2016 in Cambodia at NISC, another member school of the Nord Anglia community. During my five years there, I had the opportunity to go with students of different grade levels on the Tanzania Seeway Expedition in 2018 and 2019. I am very excited about becoming a staff member of St Andrews and I'm looking forward to exploring Thailand's nature and culture.

I love dancing, travelling and spending time in nature. I enjoy photography and in my free time when I can't travel, I like reading and painting. I am also passionate about community work and wellbeing.

Since the beginning of my journey to St Andrews, I've felt a great sense of community where inclusion and diversity are part of the identity of the school. I truly believe it provides a safe environment for every member to be successful.
