Geoff

Head of Key Stage 2

I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2000 with a 2:1 Bachelor of the Arts (Hons) Degree in Primary Education specialising in Physical Education (with QTS). Following university I began supply teaching in Liverpool working in a variety of Primary schools across the city across all year groups. I was able to take up a long-term position in one of these schools, Longmoor Lane Junior School. While there I worked in Year 2 and Year 4, as well as taking up the position of Design and Technology Coordinator. I then moved to Manchester, again initially working as a supply teacher across a range of schools, before taking up a full-time position at Haveley Hey Primary School, in South Manchester. I also worked in Year 3 and Year 4.

My then partner (now wife) and I had always discussed a desire to sample working abroad and so in 2004 began searching for a position abroad. We initially planned on a two-year position, but on completing our first contract at St. Andrews, we wished to continue working here. While at St. Andrews I have been a Year 2 and Year 3 class teacher, Numeracy Coordinator and have now moved into a management role as Head of Key Stage 2.

As a person, I always enjoy a challenge. I have recently undertaken a number of online courses in the field of education, with the aim of embarking on a Masters in Education course in the near future. Outside of work I like to stay mentally and physically active through cycling, football, reading and regular brain training activities. I also enjoy long walks with my dog, which can be difficult in Bangkok, so I often retreat to Hua Hin at the weekends to get some fresh air outside of the city.

St. Andrews is a unique working environment. A strong community feel runs throughout the school, enabling excellent relationships between students, staff and parents. The team of excellent teachers provide a stimulating, accessible curriculum, allowing every child to be sufficiently challenged and motivated to do their best. I have enjoyed watching St. Andrews grow from strength to strength over the 10 years I have been here, in terms of numbers, facilities and the breadth and effectiveness of the curriculum offered, all the while maintaining that sense of community and small school feel in which every child and family is known and valued.
