I have been working within the field of Special Educational Needs (SEN) or over 16 years, and have had the opportunity to teach in the UK, US and Australia. I completed my Master’s Degree in SEN through Northampton University in 2014, and and have used the knowledge, understanding and experience to continually improve my practice here at St. Andrews International School Bangkok. Interestingly I applied for a job at St. Andrews about 11 years ago, with Mr. Paul advising me that I needed to gain more experience internationally – which I went away and did. The position of High School Learning Support Coordinator arose again in 2009, so I applied and was offered the position.
My role has developed since then and I’m very happy to have joined to STA community. Those who know me would say that I’m lively, funny and laugh frequently, but take the welfare and academic and pastoral progress of the students very seriously. I enjoy my job and feel lucky that I can spend time with and learn so much from such a great group of students, staff and parents, as well as humbly attempt to pass on my own knowledge and experience.
I enjoy reading, sports, spending time with my young daughter Lola, getting beaten up while doing Muay Thai as well as watching Nottingham Forest FC get beat on TV. St. Andrews is a community as much as an educational establishment. Everyone looks out for and supports each other, and really makes you feel valued and appreciated. For me, it’s an honor to have the opportunity to work alongside the staff, students and parents, and I can honestly say that I learn as much from the students as I teach them. The eclectic nature and inclusive ethos of the school has allowed me to develop as much personally as it has professionally since starting work here in 2009, and every morning when I ride to school with the sun shining I have a smile on my face. Yes, even Monday mornings!
For me personally it's like a community, almost a second family. It feels like a blessing to have the opportunity to teach, leave from such an amazing group of people - to be privileged enough to work here for over 10 years!
