Students of the British International School of Charlotte are endeavoring to increase awareness for a child's right to be healthy with a student-inspired creative campaign called VivaValentine. With #VivaValentine, surprise your friends and family with a fresh vegetable bouquet, fruit snacks or anything heart healthy in lieu of the usual chocolate indulgence, snap a picture or video capturing the moment and post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using (hashtag) #VivaValentine.
Students hope the #VivaValentine campaign gains enough traction through likes, follows and tweets that with each moment captured, the community gives pause to consider the necessity for access to healthy foods, water and overall well-being for less fortunate children, both locally and worldwide.
People who participate in the #VivaValentine campaign are encouraged to pass the message along by nominating others to give their Valentines a heart-healthy, non-chocolate surprise. Additionally, donations are being accepted through a PayPal account set up by the school on the student's behalf, with proceeds going to selected local charities and Oxfam.
As part of a global network of 31 Nord Anglia Education schools worldwide, the British International School of Charlotte, together with other NAE students from Chicago to Hong Kong, have united to forward the cause for children's rights all over the world. Each school is challenged to be creative in their approach to maximize awareness and provoke thoughtfulness in their local communities. With this and other criteria, one school will be celebrated as the challenge winner.
In addition to the social media campaign, Charlotte students will also be volunteering, conducting art and sports events and coordinating donations. As a true student-driven effort, student ambassadors are hoping for a more than favorable outcome, and say it best. ‘
“We hope to not just win this challenge, but make other people's lives better."
