After graduating from college in London, UK, I went to work for Nabisco as a Product Development Technologist, which involved a great deal of project management. However, teaching was always an end goal for me. I trained to teach Sciences at Southampton University and taught in that subject area for a number of years before taking a teaching exchange to Sydney, Australia. This inspired in me a love of teaching mathematics; a real challenge in taking a cerebral subject and bringing it to life with purpose and understanding. This led me to study a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education and Leadership.
Travel and new experiences are always close to my heart, however, so when the opportunity to teach mathematics AND science arose at the British International School of Charlotte, I jumped at the chance! I now have a passion for understanding leadership and the close link between great leadership and great learning, and this continues to be my key focus as I lead our highly skilled team of Middle and High School teachers. The provision of our curricula, culminating in the IB Diploma, ensures all our teachers and students are engaged in global, ethical and pertinent education experiences.
Our true focus on personalization and attention to the learner’s needs makes this a very stimulating and rewarding environment. Seeing the progress that our students make daily, the confidence that comes with these successes, and knowing that they are building great skills on which to move forward gives the school a truly learning-centered ethos. Also, having students from the age of 1.5 to 18 years and seeing them come together for celebrations and specific learning events gives everyone a richer and wider experience of what it is to belong to our school.
