Upper School Teacher

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I used to bring my schoolwork home, erase it and then teach my sister to do it all over again. Attending boarding school allowed me to experience first hand how important the role of a teacher is and the positive impact they can make. After school I earned a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Reading University and then a Master's in Education from Montana State University. My first full time teaching job was in Thailand where I lived for 10 years. While in Thailand I worked with some students with learningchallenges, and felt ill-equipped to help them, so I came back to the UK to work in a boarding school for autistic adolescents. This taught me a profound respect for the challenges all students may find. As a result, I have developed strategies to include lots of different learning styles in my classroom to bring science to life for everyone. It also shifted my thinking about teaching to include more emphasis on skills, not just content, which is why I feel so passionate about theIB curriculum. After getting married, I moved to China where I have been teaching for 8 years and joined Nord Anglia. I'm really excited about the emphasis on STEAM at Nord Anglia schools, and I'm looking forward to using the Global Campus andMIT challenges with different students. Outside the classroom I enjoy reading, riding my bike, walking my dog, cooking and baking. I am extremely excited about joining BISC!
