Pre-Kindergarten / Foundation Teacher, 3-year-old class

Having grown up in the seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, I specialised in Early Years Education whilst studying for my BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education at the University of Hull in the UK. My teaching career began in the Foundation Stage in a primary school on the coast of North East England. At this village school, I also enjoyed being the PE Primary Link teacher for the local district schools, training school staff and co-ordinating many sports clubs. I especially enjoyed teaching swimming and arranging the competitions.

In 2009, after having studied and taught in the same area of the country for many years, I decided to broaden my horizons and set out on a new adventure to the United Arab Emirates. There, I continued my passion for teaching in the Early Years, joined a British International School and helped the team achieve “Outstanding” status by the Abu Dhabi Education Council.

The UAE was a wonderful environment to start a family: it was where I met my American husband and where our two boys were born. After almost ten years living and teaching in the desert, we decided to be ambitious and move on to the somewhat cooler climate of Alaska. This truly was venturing into the unknown. There, I taught Early Kindergarten at a small private school and loved exploring the outdoors with these young learners. Nevertheless, I had been researching Nord Anglia education for many years and was thrilled when the opportunity arose to apply for a Foundation Stage position in the wonderful city of Charlotte.

I am excited to be back teaching in an international setting and am interested in contributing my experiences and links to the Global Campus. In all of my previous schools, I have been passionate about taking a lead role in organising the theatre productions. I am greatly looking forward to becoming involved with the links BISC has with Juilliard.

My family and I can’t wait to explore all that North Carolina and the USA have to offer. We have already begun exploring the beautiful beaches and mountains. I also enjoy baking and decorating cakes, swimming, playing the flute and have been learning the piano.
