Learning doesn’t only happen at a desk and chair! Our students are children and teenagers, and they are lively and full of energy, they should be able to use that energy in a positive way to help improve their learning.

Students spend more than 7 hours of their day at school. For a large amount of that time, they are sitting at a desk or a table looking at a board, writing in their notebooks and not moving around much. Sitting around for so long can be tiring, boring and can make even the most energetic person want to sleep and lose focus and concentration. Our students are children and teenagers, and they are lively and full of energy, they should be able to use that energy in a positive way to help improve their learning.

In different subjects teachers do things to attempt to bring students out of their seats. Some teachers allow students to work in different groups, which gives students the chance to work with different people and share and learn different ideas. English teachers at our school often take the students to the library to read books and do some reading in a different environment and this allows the students to explore the worlds from their stories whilst surrounded by books and in a colourful and peaceful environment.

I teach the students science and even though we do a few experiments in the lab, I try to go a step further by taking the students out of the classroom and into the great outdoors. Being outside the students have the opportunity to explore the world and learn many new things and at the same time get some fresh air, natural light and be in nature. A change of environment helps the students to be more relaxed, see things in a different perspective and give them some time away from being in a classroom and staring at the same four walls.

Learning isn’t only going to happen inside of a classroom so giving the students a chance to step out of the classroom environment will get them ready for a life of learning in any place in the world!
