Hello everyone! My name is Nicholas Smith and I am the new music teacher here at BSN. I have been in the Nanjing area for a long time and I am honoured to be starting here at BSN. I am from the UK and I hold a first class music degree from the University of Manchester as well as a PGCE in music education from the University of Sunderland. My specialism is music composition but I also have a rich history of music performance and directing ensembles and musicals within a school setting.
The thing I love most about teaching is the sense of community that is developed. The feeling of teachers, students and parents working together all for a common cause is really something great. As a music teacher, this is personally felt most during production times, where everyone is playing their part to create something spectacular!
I hope at the start of the school year parents can send me any videos of their kids performing on musical instruments (including voice). I hope to get to know as many of the students as soon as possible and aim to get musical ensembles set up as well!
In addition to music my other main hobby is studying languages. I speak fluent Chinese getting my HSK6 certificate back in 2017. Students should be aware that they can’t make jokes about me in Chinese! In addition I have studied many other languages including French, Spanish, Polish and a little bit of Japanese.
I can't wait to see you all at the start of the term!
