John Hanlon

Head of Humanities/ Geography Teacher

John Hanlon
BA in History and Politics,
QTS, Postgraduate Diploma in Education

I am from Salford, a city in northern England, famed for its association with the Industrial Revolution, artist T.S. Lowry, and in more modern times the home of the BBC. I love my home city, but I have always had a fervent desire to travel and to be a part of a global community.

I studied History and Politics at Nottingham University and have since acquired qualifications in teaching. I have a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) from the Manchester Central School of English and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education with specialisation in Geography (PGDE) from Canterbury Christ Church University. I have significant experience in teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities and have successfully led Geography departments in the UK. I have a passion for human geography and adore developing debating skills.

I am aware of the stereotype, but outside of education, I am keen on orienteering and the great outdoors. I love playing and watching sports. For example, I am an experienced hockey goalkeeper and was voted player of the year at my hockey club in Canterbury last year. I also love drama and comedy, consequently I watch and have been involved in plays, musicals and stand-up comedy.

I am tremendously excited to join the BSN community.
