Mark Aston

Head of English

Bachelor of Arts - English Literature (Exeter University); PGDE

A native English speaker from the United Kingdom and a graduate in English Literature from the University of Exeter, I hold a BA Honours (Exon) and a two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Newcastle. In addition, I have recently completed a Masters in Education from the world’s top-ranked education faculty, the Institute of Education, University College London, specializing in curriculum development, assessment policy and practice and teacher professional identity.

I have over 13 years of teaching experience in the UK, Europe, Latin America and Asia, having taught IGCSE, A-level and the IB Diploma. I pride myself on nurturing a love of reading and writing for pleasure amongst my students, whilst ensuring that they are exposed to a rich diet of prose, poetry and drama. I am also qualified to teach English as a Second Language through Cambridge University and have an excellent grasp of English grammar and vocabulary, which I thoroughly enjoy passing on to my students.

In my spare time, I enjoy writing and co-authored ‘Check Your Vocabulary for TOEFL’, published by Peter Colling Publishing. In addition, I have written educational book reviews for the Times Educational Supplement and written articles for several UK education magazines.
