Candidates for the Executive Master in International Education at King’s College London met for the first time in December 2016 to share their experiences and learn about the unique challenges in international education.

The winter residentials for the inaugural year of the Executive Master in International Education awarded by King's College London kicked off in London on December 12th with a river cruise along the Thames. This was the first time that masters candidates would meet fellow colleagues from Nord Anglia schools around the world as well as professors from King’s College London leading their courses. While catching a glimpse of famous London landmarks on the cruise, candidates familiarised themselves with fellow colleagues from various corners of the earth.

The four-day winter residentials consisted of seminars on teaching and learning with digital technologies; the importance of international education research; and globalisation and internationalisation as contexts for intercultural and international education. Among many other topics, candidates will learn the process and value of research as well as share experiences in teaching in international and multicultural settings around the world. This programme ensures that our students learn from the very best with dedicated teachers who are on the leading edge of their profession.

Bevan Graham, Head of the International Baccalaureate Academy at Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong, writes about his experience below:

The Executive Master in International Education at King’s College London has been hard work and at times nerve wracking, but always an absolute privilege to be part of the first cohort. The process has been a fascinating learning journey. The course designers have facilitated a discursive dialogue supported by marvellous literature that has provided great insight to prevailing research in international education. The selection of core and prescribed readings has allowed for a highly pleasurable and deeply absorbing reading experience. We have engaged with a range of texts derived from empirical studies, qualitative analyses, case studies and literature reviews. The reading has been carefully designed to provoke discussion and to consider a range of perspectives. The highly contestable nature of the term “international education” provided the starting point for the ongoing discussion about school typology, globalisation, post-colonialism, socioeconomics, theories of class and privilege. Each week the material is discussed on the Nord Anglia University forums and has provided incredible realisations as to the complexities and diverse realities of Nord Anglia Education schools all over the world.
