What a game. What a performance. What a team. What a win!

BIS Houston Bulldogs 9- 0 Awty International Rams

Tuesday November 17th 2020.

“9 goals and a great team performance help BIS Houston Bulldogs Varsity Girls to historic win!”

At 5pm on Tuesday November 17th the BIS Houston Bulldogs Varsity Girls soccer team took to the Pitch for the first time in the 2020/21 season.

The conditions were perfect, the stage was set. The Bulldogs took the field with the sun going down behind the bleachers. There was a nervous excitement in the air, players anxious to start and coaches equally anxious to see their newly formed team in action for the first time.

After a shaky start the Bulldogs soon settled in and started to control the game. Much of the first 15 minutes were played in the middle of the park, going back and forth, both teams sussing each other out.

The bulldogs would soon break the deadlock, Amber (# 21) with a breakaway. A fantastic run, beating two of Awtys defenders, a cut inside and a calm finish. 1-0 Bulldogs.

With a new found confidence the bulldogs took charge of the game putting the Awty defense under increasing pressure. The ensuing pressure soon led to an onslaught of corners.

Corner number 3 for the Bulldogs- Step up Bethan (# 4) a menacing cross which Awty struggled to deal with, the ball bounced around in their 6-yard box and onto the hand of an Awty player.

Penalty bulldogs.

Captain Georgia (# 7) the ball. Silence across the pitch as the players and coaches head their breath waiting for the outcome. A small run up, a clean hit. Awtys keeper made a swift dive to the left but there was a sigh of relief for the bulldogs s the ball hit the back on the net, slide just underneath the keeper.

Halftime 2-0.

After an inspired half time team talk and a few tactical changes the Bulldogs took the pitch under the floodlights for the second half. And what a second half it was!

The bulldogs were on the front foot straight away putting the Awty defense under pressure. A quick inside pass from Georgia (# 7) to Milena (# 8) whose long range shot fizzed into the top right corner. 3-0.

The bulldogs would continue to press; Awtys defense put up a good fight until Cato (# 14) found a gap in the defense and played a perfect ball for Georgia (# 7) to latch onto, 1 on 1 with the keeper Georgia made no mistake slotting the ball just inside the far post. 4-0.

Soon after, Milena (# 8) would soon get another chance, another long-range shot; the Awty keeper was unlucky not to save it, she took the sting out of the shot but couldn’t stop it from hitting the back on the net. 5-0.

The bulldogs, still hungry for more, continued the onslaught on the Awty goal. A clever pass, up the right wing, from Issy N (# 5) to Georgia (# 7) stater the next attack. Georgia took on a player, cut inside the box onto her favored right foot and slotted a pass across the 6-yard box to Amber (# 21) who would calmly pass the ball past the Awty keeper. 6.0.

The bulldogs went on the hunt again. A quick, clever throw in from Lina (# 18 ) to the feet of Milena (# 8) who would turn, beat an Awty defender and complete her hattrick with a 20 year screamer.  7-0.

Georgia, (# 7) not to be outdone, went searching for her third of the game and was to find it, in what was arguably the bulldogs best goal of the night. Iona (# 3) would find Milena in midfield. A lovely a combination play between Emma (#2 ) and Milena in the middle before a through ball for Georgia to latch onto and finish beautifully. 8-0.

Still the bulldogs pressed, winning another corner. Step up Bethan (# 4) another perfect cross, another ball bouncing around the box, another handball and another penalty. After an outstanding second half Emma (# 2) would take this one. A cool step and a flawless penalty to the keepers left. 9-0.

Awty, would launch a late attack- trying to get a late consolation and it almost came for them. An excellent corner bounced around the bulldogs box, and a shot from the Awtys striker looked goal bound until Keeper Cerys (# 1) made an incredible save, diving low to the right to stop the ball on the line.

Full time. 9-0 and a clean sheet

What a game. What a performance. What a team. What a win!
